S.M.A.R.T. SUMMER ENRICHMENT

SMART (Science, Math, Arts, Reading and Technology) serves children grades K - 8 from Downtown Columbus and surrounding areas during the summer months to provide children with a safe, fun, and enriching learning environment.  Research confirms that children not engaged in leaning activities over the summer months will experience some learning loss. The learning gap  grows even wider for disengaged youth from a low economic background. The goal of SMART is to prevent summer learning loss and prepare children for the challenges at the next level.

PROGRAM

The program begins the week after Columbus City Schools' last academic day, lasts for 6 - 8 weeks, and is held between 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. An Integrated Reading Curriculum is implemented in each classroom that integrates Reading, Writing, and language development.

The program also includes:

  • Reinforcement and Enrichment of Math Skills

  • Social Emotional Learning that includes Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision-Making.

  • Nutritional guidance & Physical activities via the Coordinated Approach To Child Health (CATCH) Program
